Irina’s Daata Aloo Bhaji

    Daata Aloo Bhaji is an everyday side dish that is not very spicy, but is rather quite light. It is healthy and easy to make. The bhaji is eaten with plain white rice or plain rootis. I personally like to mix in a bit of dal with rice :)

    Serves: 5 

    • 6 daata, sliced
    • 2 medium sized potatoes, sliced thinly
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1/2 cup onion slices
    • salt as needed
    • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
    • 2 onions
    • 5 cloves of garlic
    • 5-6 green chilies cut in half along the length

    1. Boil daata, potato and onion slices with salt and turmeric powder and set aside.
    2. Chop the onions and garlic cloves into slices.
    3. On a pan, heat oil and fry the onions and garlic. Add the green chillies and fry until the onions and garlic turn red. Add the boiled data, onion and potato slices and turmeric powder and fry for a bit.
    4. Serve with plain white rice or plain tortillas.

    Serving suggestion

    It is served with plain white rice during lunch or dinner. It can be also eaten for breakfast using wheat or flour tortillas ( rootis).
