About this recipe:Data is a stem like common everyday vegetable in the Bengal. It is cut into slices as long as French fries. The Chingri Data Aloo Curry is not difficult, and is slightly spicy. The taste of fried shrimps with aloo and data is quite exquisite. It is eaten with plain white rice.
Heat the oil in a pan and fry the sliced onions until the onions turn light brown. Add the shrimps and fry as the salt, turmeric and red chilli powders are sprinkled. Also add 2 tablespoons of water.
Cook until the water dries up a bit, the oil starts to float as the spices mix well with the shrimps and onions.
Add the data and potato slices with 2 cups of water.
Cook on low heat with the lid on until the data and potato slices boil. The water will dry and become half of its original volume ( around 1 cup water will remain). The gravy formed will be light, but not watery.
