Nadira's Rui Fish fry

    Rui fish is a common big fish in the Bengal. It is cooked in so many different ways. This recipe is rather simple and not so messy. The fish fries are delicious by themselves, but can be also served with plain rice or pulao. Just be careful with the big fish bones though!

    Serves: 7 

    • 500 g rui fish, cut in long pieces
    • Salt as needed
    • 2 tablespoons of soya sauce
    • 1 tablespoon of ginger paste
    • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic paste
    • 1 tablespoon of onion paste
    • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1 egg
    • Water as needed
    • 2 cups of oil for deep frying

    1. Wash the fishes with salt. Allow the water to dry.
    2. Pour the soya sauce on the fish pieces. Mix well and add the ginger, garlic and onion pastes, black pepper and red chili powders. Marinate for 1 hour in regular temperature.
    3. In a bowl, mix the flour, egg and 1/2 cup of water to make a thick liquid mixture.
    4. Heat a deep frying pan with oil.
    5. Dip each fish piece in the flour-egg mixture and place on the hot bubbling deep oil. Fry until the fish pieces turn golden brown and crispy.
    6. Serve with plain rice or pulao.
