Murir Mowa (Puffed Rice Ball)

About this recipe: This is a traditional subcontinental sweet made with puffed rice and palm date jaggery. It tastes great with warm tea (cha).

  • 2.5 cups of palm date jaggery
  • just a bit of water
  • 2 cups of puffed rice (muri)
  • 1 tablespoon of grounded nuts (any kind)


  1. Heat a pan and add the palm date jaggery with a bit of water. Allow the jaggery to melt with the water to form a sticky liquid
  2. Pour the puffed rice and stir continuously until the puffed rice and jaggery start to stick together in lumps.
  3. Sprinkle the nut powder and stir again.
  4. Now take a small lump of the mixture in your hand and make small balls
  5. Repeat to make 8-10 balls (mowa).
  6. Set aside to cool.
  7. Serve!
