    About this recipe: This is a traditional way to cook chicken with yogurt. It is not very spicy, and is served with rice, pulao or biryani. Often times, this dish is cooked on special occasions, such as big parties.

    Ingredients

    • 4 chicken pieces ( 1 chicken cut in 4 parts)
    • 3 tablespoons of ginger paste
    • 3 tablespoons of garlic paste
    • 3 tablespoons of onion paste
    • 2 tablespoons of coriander powder
    • 2 tablespoons of cumin powder
    • 2 tablespoons of black pepper powder
    • 4 bay leaves
    • 4 cloves, 3 cinnamon sticks and 4-5 cardamoms-grinded together into a powder
    • 2 tablespoons of ready made chicken masala powder
    • Vegetable oil-as preferred
    • 1 cup of sliced onions
    • 7-8 green chilies, sliced in half along the length
    • 1 cup of Greek yoghurt
    • Salt as needed
    • Water as needed

    Directions

    1. In a bowl mix the chicken pieces with ginger, garlic and onion pastes. Also add in coriander, cumin and black pepper powders and bay leaves. Mix well and add the powdered cloves, cinnamon sticks and cardamoms.
    2. Mix the chicken masala powder as well so that all the chicken pieces are covered well with the spices.
    3. Marinade for 4-5 hours.
    4. Heat a pan with oil. Add a chicken piece one at a time. Fry the chicken until the pieces turn reddish brown. Allow the fried chicken pieces to simmer on very low heat for a few minutes. Set aside the fried chicken pieces on a bowl.
    5. In a separate pan, heat a bit of oil. Fry the onions and green chilies with the yoghurt. Sprinkle some salt and stir.

    7. Put the lid on and cook for 10 minutes.
    8. Add 1/2 cup of water and put the lid on. Cook for another 5 minutes.
    9. Check with a fork if the spices and gravy have entered the chicken pieces.
    10. Serve with rice or pulao.
