Tetul Borhani (Tamarind Borhani)

    Tetul Borhani is really easy and a bit more different than the borhanis served at weddings these days. The taste of tamarind really brings in an edge.

    • 1/2 cup of tamarind extract
    • 3 cups of Greek yoghurt ( tok doi)
    • 1/2 cup of sugar
    • 1.5 teaspoons of toasted cumin powder ( seeds that have been toasted on tawa and grinded into powder)
    • 1 teaspoon of black salt
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped green chilies
    • water-as needed to get preferred thickness ( borhani is usually thick)
    • crushed ice-as preferred


    1. Soak the tamarind pieces in water for 30 minutes and collect half cup of the extract by filtering the mixture through a sieve.
    2. Mix the Greek yoghurt ( tok doi) with sugar, cumin powder, black salt, green chili slices and water.
    3. Serve with crushed ice.
