Kach Amer Kacha Rosh (Green Mango Juice)

    Green mango juice is a typical juice in the Bengal-however, each person makes it differently. I like sprinkling in aniseed that gives it a different taste.

    • 4 green mangoes, washed well
    • 4 cups of drinking water
    • 1 cup of sugar
    • 1 teaspoon of black salt
    • toasted and grounded mouri or aniseed-as preferred
    • 1 teaspoon of green chili paste of 1/2 teaspoon of grounded dried red chilies
    • crushed ice-as preferred


    1. Cut the mango in 4-5 slices along its length. Boil the mangoes without peeling the skin and taking out the pit. Allow to cool.
    2. Peel the skin off the boiled mango pieces. Squeeze the mangoes on a sieve and collect the mango extract.
    3. Mix in 4 cups of drinking water, sugar, black salt, mouri (aniseed), and green or red chilies. Put the mixture in a blender and blend well.
    4. Pour the drink in serving glasses.
    5. Serve with crushed ice.
