Kaun ka Payesh

    Kaun is a corn like grain that is cultivated in Bangladesh. It is cooked to make various dishes, like kaun ka pulao or payesh. This is a milk based dessert that will soothe anyone down :)

    • 1-1.5 liter of milk
    • 1 cup of kaun
    • 1.5 cups of sugar
    • 2 cardamoms
    • 2 cinnamon sticks
    • 1 teaspoon of rose water
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped pistachio nuts
    • 1 tablespoon of raisins


    1. Heat milk so that it thickens down to 1/2 liter or 0.5 kg of volume.
    2. Add the kaun to the thickened milk and stir. Sprinkle the sugar and stir well as the mixture thickens and kaun boils.
    3. Add the cardamoms and cinnamon sticks and stir for just a bit.
    4. Sprinkle the rose water and stir again.
    5. Decorate with pistachio nuts and raisins and serve.
