1 cup of Sheem er bichi (flat beans or broad beans)
1 cup of motor dal (splitpea)
1 cup of chola dal (chickpeas)
2 cups of rice
2-3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon of garlic slices
1 cup of onion slices
0.5 tablespoon of ginger paste
1 tablespoon of onion paste
0.5 tablespoon of garlic paste
salt as needed
water as needed
0.5 cup of ghee (butter oil)
5-6 green chilies
Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan and fry the seeds: sheem er bichi, motor dal and chola dal. Soak the fried seeds in water 4-5 hours.
Heat the pan used to fry the seeds with the 2 more tablespoons of the oil and fry the rice. Soak the fried rice in water for 30 minutes.
Mix the soaked rice and seeds and soak in fresh water for another 4-5 hours.
Heat a separate pan with the rest of the oil and fry the bay leaves, garlic slices, onion slices, ginger, onion and garlic pastes until the water released from the pastes dries up slightly and the oil starts to simmer and float on top.
Add the mixed rice and seeds to the pan. Stir and mix in salt.
Pour in 4-5 cups of water and cook with the lid on for 10-15 minutes on high heat.
Cook on low heat for 30 minutes
Mix in ghee and stir again. Sprinkle the green chilies and serve.
