Shrimp Bora or Boda (Chingri Mach er Boda or Bora)

    Shrimps boda (or bora) is a delicious snack that is favorite to shrimp lovers. At my home, I make is often during Ramadan for Iftar.

    • 1 cup of shrimps
    • 2 cups of soybean oil
    • 1 tablespoon of onion paste
    • 1 tablespoon of ginger paste
    • 1 teaspoon of garlic paste
    • 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper powder
    • salt as needed
    • 1 teaspoon of corn flour
    • 4-5 green chilies, chopped
    • 1/2 cup of onion slices


    1. Heat a pan with around 2 tablespoons of soybean oil. Fry the shrimps until the turn golden brown. Turn the heat off and allow the shrimps to cool.
    2. Grind the shrimps into a dry paste preferably using a sheel pata.
    3. Mix in onion, ginger and garlic pastes, cumin and black pepper powder, salt and corn flour with the pasted shrimps.
    4. Finally mix in the green chilies and onions.
    5. Heat a deep frying pan with the oil. Take a small portion of the mixture in your hand and make a small ball out of it.
    6. Add the ball or bora (boda) to the hot oil. Add a few more balls and deep fry until golden brown.
    7. Serve with sauce or with chola fry and dal bora for Iftar.
