About this recipe: Pudina pata chutney or mint chutney is a very common and essential chutney in Bengali and Indian cuisines. It is spicy, sweet and sour, and is paired up with afternoon snacks like samosas, pakoras or boras.

  • 250 g or 1 cup of mint leaves
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • 2 green chilies
  • 2-3 dried red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon of seedless tamarind pieces
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar


  1. A pinch of salt
  2. Wash the mint leaves and drain the water out.
  3. Grind the leaves, preferably on sheel pata to make a soft paste.
  4. Heat a tawa. Toast the garlic cloves, green chilies and dried red chilies.
  5. Add the toasted ingredients to the pudina or mint paste. Grind the ingredients well on the sheel pata.
  6. Finally grind the tamarind pieces, without any seeds.
  7. Mix the paste with sugar and salt.
  8. Serve.
