Moin Bhabi’s Tomato Sauce

    I learned about this recipe from my Moin Bhabi. Serve with hot samosas or aloo parathas.

    • 2 tomatoes
    • 10-12 dried red chilies
    • 2 garlic
    • salt as needed
    • 1 teaspoon of citric acid, potassium sulfate or lemon juice
    • 1 cup of sugar
    • 3-4 tablespoons of corn flour


    1. Cut the tomato into pieces. Boil the tomato slices with red chilies, garlic and salt.
    2. Blend the mixture when the ingredients have cooled down.
    3. Filter out the mixture on a sieve or a light cotton cloth tied over a jug.
    4. Mix citric acid, potassium sulfate or lemon juice to the tomato extract.
    5. Heat this mixture in a saucepan with sugar and bring to boil.
    6. When bubbles form and the mixture becomes thick, add the corn flour.
    7. Mix and heat for another 5 minutes.
    8. Serve!
