Sheem er Bichir Bharta (Broad bean Mash)

One of my family's favorite mash dishes-sheem er bichir bhorta is truly a delight! I wonder how could a simple recipe make something so delicious? Serve with plain rice.

    1 person made this

    • 250 g of broad beans
    • water as needed
    • salt as needed
    • 4-5 green chilies
    • 2-3 dried red chilies
    • 1 onion, peeled and sliced
    • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and sliced
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped coriander leaves

    1. Boil the broad beans with 1/2 cup of water and a pinch of salt. Set aside to cool.
    2. Heat a tawa and toast the green chilies, red chilies, onion and garlic slices. Set aside to cool.
    3. Take the seeds of the broad beans out and collect on a bowl. Grind the seedless broad beans on a sheel pata or using a mortar-pestle.
    4. Now grind the toasted ingredients and coriander leaves with the broad beans.
    5. Peel the skin of the seeds.
    6. Finally add the seeds and grind just slightly so that the seeds do not completely break, but rather most of the seeds are intact.
    7. Mix in salt and serve with rice.
