About this recipe: Malpoya or malpua pithas are made of soft and sweet layers that will give you a true sense of simplistic happiness. The pitha is especially made during ceremonies, like Holi or celebrating the Bengali New Year.

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of rice powder
  • 1 tablespoon of semolina
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cups of soybean oil


  1. Mix the flour, semolina, egg, sugar and water to make a thick liquid mix.
  2. Heat a deep frying pan with soybean oil. Take a big deep spoon and collect a portion in it.
  3. Carely pour it in the hot bubbling oil as a round circle. The circle or “pitha” will swell as it gets deep fried. The pitha will be ready when it is golden brown, especially in the circumference.
  4. Repeat to make more pithas.
