Kakrol Bharta (Teasle Gourd Mash)

    This is a very easy yet delicious mash recipe for teasle gourd. Serve with steaming white rice.

    • 250 g of kakrol or teasle gourd
    • 2 tablespoons of ghee
    • 1/2 cup of shrimps ( small sized)
    • 1/2 cup of onion slices
    • 6-7 green chilies, chopped
    • salt as needed
    • 2 tablespoons of mustard oil


    1. Cut the kakrol into thin slices.
    2. Heat a pan with ghee and fry the kakrol and shrimps. Transfer the kakrol and shrimps on to a bowl to cool. Smash well hand in the bowl.
    3. Add the onion and green chili slices while mashing.
    4. Sprinkle salt and add the mustard oil. Mash until the onions become soft. Serve with plain steaming rice.
