Onion Pakoda

    This is an easy and quick afternoon snack, a favorite amongst onion lovers. Serve with chutney and warm chai.

    Serves: 3 

    • 2 sliced onions
    • 3 tablespoons besan powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • salt as needed
    • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds
    • 1.5 tablespoons water
    • soybean oil for frying

    1. Soak the sliced onions in a bowl of salted water for 5min.
    2. Take the besan powder in a bowl. Add cumin seeds, salt and red chili and turmeric powders and carom seeds.
    3. Mix these ingredients with water to make paste.
    4. Drain out the salted water from the onion slices. Add the onion slices to the masala paste.
    5. Make a thick batter.
    6. Heat a deep frying pan with soybean oil.
    7. Make small balls out the batter and drop the balls in the hot oil. The balls will swell to form brown colored onion pakodas.
    8. Serve with pudina chutney.
