About this recipe: Potato pakoda is a salty and slightly comfort food perfect as a snack to be shared amongst friends on afternoons. Serve with chutneys or tomato sauce.

Serves: 4 

  • 2 boiled potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons besan powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
  • salt as needed
  • 1.5 tablespoons water
  • soybean oil for deep frying

  1. Peel the skin of the potatoes. Slice the potatoes in a round shapes.
  2. Make a thick batter of besan, red chilly powder, carom seeds, haldi, salt and water.
  3. Add potato slices in the batter. Mix them up.
  4. Heat a deep frying pan with soybean oil. Make balls with each potato slice covered with the batter. Add the potato ball or potato pakoda in the hot oil. Repeat for the rest of the slices. Fry until the balls swell up and turn brown.
  5. Serve with chutneys.
