Devaki's Rajma

    Rajama is a healthy dish, and in my family this is made quite often. Enjoy with steaming plain rice.

    Serves: 4 

    • ½ cup vegetable oil
    • 3 lal mirch, ( dry red chilies)
    • 2 large onions, chopped
    • 10 g ginger, grated and ground onto a paste
    • 12 flakes garlic, ground onto a paste
    • 3 large tomatoes, chopped
    • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
    • salt as needed
    • 4 ¼ cups water
    • 2 ½ cups rajma (kidney beans, soaked overnight, and then soaked again with warm water for 2 hours before being cooked)
    • 1 teaspoon garam masala paowder

    1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker for 3 minutes. Add the red chilies and stir for a bit. Add the onions and ginger garlic pastes. Stir and add tomatoes, red chili powder and salt.
    2. When the tomatoes have softened, add water and rajma (kidney beans).
    3. Close the lid of the pressure cooker, cook on medium heat for 20 minutes.
    4. Take the lid out, and mix in garam masala powder. Simmer for a few more minutes, and serve.
