About this recipe: This is a dal with very thin gravy, and has a great prominence of chopped green chilies. Unlike most dal dishes, no red chili powder is used. Serve hot with rice.

Serves: 3 

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 2 to 3 ( or more) chopped green chilies
  • 1 tablespoon chopped tomatoes
  • 2 cups boiled tur dal
  • water as needed
  • Salt as needed
  • A pinch or two sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon haldi powder

  1. Heat a pan with vegetable oil. Add cumin seeds.
  2. Now add green chilies and tomatoes. Stir and fry.
  3. Then add tur dal with half cup of water. Mix well.
  4. Now add salt, sugar, haldi powder and coriander leaves. Boil for 5 minutes.
