Chavalich aamti ( black eyed bean dal)

    This is black eyed bean dal, a popular dish amongst Maharashtrians. Enjoy with rice or chapattis.

    Serves: 3 

    • 2 cups chavali (black eyed beans)
    • water as needed
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • 4 tablespoons chopped onions
    • 2 tablespoons chopped tomatoes
    • 2 tablespoons coconut and garlic paste
    • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
    • 1 teaspoon haldi powder

    1. Cook chavali in a pressure cooker with 2 cups water for 15 minutes.
    2. Heat a pan with vegetable oil. Add cumin seeds, onions and tomatoes. Fry until the onions turn brown.
    3. Now add the coconut-garlic paste. Stir and mix. Then add red chilly powder, haldi powder and salt.
    4. Then add the chavali and 1 cup water. Boil the mixture for 2 minutes.
