Palak rassa

    This is a spinach and chana dal based side dish that has a soft and comforting texture. It is a typical Maharashtran dish, and is served with rice or chapattis.

    Serves: 6 

    • 8 cups palak patta (spinach leaves), sliced
    • Water as needed
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 2 teaspoons cumin seeds
    • 1 teaspoon green chili paste
    • 1 teaspoon haldi powder
    • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
    • 2 tablespoons boiled peanuts
    • 2 tablespoons chana dal, previously boiled in 4 tablespoons water for 15 minutes in pressure cooker.
    • Salt as needed

    1. Blanch the palak in a hot water. Grind and mash it.
    2. Heat a pan with oil. Add the cumin seeds and green chili paste. Add haldi powder. Stir.
    3. Then add mashed palak, peanuts and chana dal. Stir and mix.
    4. Add salt and boil for 2 minutes.
