Mugachi chakali

    Mugachi is a Gujrati snack that is very popular amongst Maharashtrians. These snacks look like golden brown flattened spirals made from a lentil base. Enjoy with chutney or theccha.

    Serves: 4 

    • 2 cups moong dal
    • salt as needed
    • 1 teaspoon haldi powder
    • 1.5 cups water
    • 1 teaspoon green chilli paste
    • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
    • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
    • 1 teaspoon til or sesame seeds
    • 3 to 4 tablespoons rice flour
    • Vegetable oil for deep frying

    1. In a pressure cooker, add moong dal, salt, haldi powder and water. Boil the dal for 15 minutes with the lid on.
    2. In a separate bowl, add green chili paste, cumin powder, coriander powder, til (sesame seeds), salt and rice flour. Mix well.
    3. Now put this mixture in chakali maker to form chakalis.
    4. Heat a kadhai or deep frying pan with vegetable oil and deep fry the chakalis until golden brown and crispy.
