Dal batti

    Dal batti is a Rajasthani dish popular in Maharashtra. The dish consists of dal or lentil curry that consists of battis or deep fried slices of wheat. Enjoy it warm.

    Serves: 3 

    • 2 cups wheat flour
    • ½ cup rava (semolina)
    • 2 teaspoons roasted cumin seeds
    • 1 tablespoon hot ghee
    • Salt as needed
    • Ghee for frying
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 1 tablespoon chopped tomatoes
    • ½ teaspoon haldi powder
    • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
    • 1 cup boiled toor dal
    • Water as needed
    • Salt as needed

    1. Mix wheat flour, rawa, 1 teaspoon of roasted cumin seeds, hot ghee and salt. Mix and make thick dough. Steam the dough for 15 minutes.
    2. Now cut this dough into small parts of 1 inch thickness of various shapes.
    3. Heat a deep frying pan with ghee. Deep fry the dough shapes or battis. Set aside the fried battis.
    4. Now take vegetable oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and tomatoes.
    5. Then add haldi powder and red chili powder. Stir and mix. Now add boiled toor dal and ½ cup water. Boil the mixture. Mix in the salt when bubbles start to form.
    6. Mix the battis with dal and serve hot.
