Matar masala

    This is a pea based gravy dish, very popular in India. Serve with white pulav, steaming rice or parathas.

    Serves: 3 

    • 2 cups boiled matar(peas)
    • 2 tablespoons chopped onions
    • 2 tablespoons chopped tomatoes
    • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
    • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
    • 1 teaspoon chili powder
    • ½ teaspoon haldi powder
    • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
    • Salt as needed
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

    1. Grind onions and tomatoes to separately using mortar and pestel. Mix and make a fine paste.
    2. Heat a pan with oil. Add cumin seeds and the onion-tomato paste. Stir and add the ginger paste. Stir and fry.
    3. Then add red chili powder, garam masala powder and haldi powder.
    4. At last add matar and salt. Mix and fry until the peas become tender and soft.
