Sabji Nola Mach ( Nola fish with vegetables)

    This is a dish with a popular Bengali dish, Nola, cooked with sheem and cauliflowers. Enjoy warm with plain rice.

    • 2 nola fish, sliced
    • 1 tablespoon green chilli paste
    • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1 tablespoon cumin-coriander paste
    • Salt as needed
    • 1/4 cup soybean oil
    • 1 cauliflower, sliced
    • 1/2 cup hyacinth bean slices/sheem
    • 2 cups water
    • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves


    1. Mix the nola fish slices with chilli paste, turmeric powder, cumin and coriander paste and salt. Set aside.
    2. Now heat a pan with soybean oil. Add the cauliflowers and sheem (hyacinth beans) and fry lightly. Transfer the fried cauliflower and hyacinth bean slices onto a plate.
    3. On the same pan, fry the fish slices. Add the cauliflowers and hyacinth beans. Fry as the water released dries up.
    4. Then add water and cook until the water dries to form thick gravy. Sprinkle salt and simmer for a few more minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.
