    About this recipe: Beef Mappas, really a delicious dish. In Kerala, we usually prepare this during Christmas, Easter times. You need to have this with Appam(will publish the recipe for appam very soon)

    Ingredients

    • Beef(stew meat) - 1 1/2 kg
    • Potatoes - 1 cup
    • Carrot - 1 Cup
    • Greenpeas - 1 cup
    • Ginger - A small piece
    • Onion (large) - 1 no
    • Garlic pods - 6 nos
    • Green Chilies - 6 nos
    • Curry leaves - A few
    • Oil - 1 tsp
    • Chilly Powder - 1 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
    • Ground pepper - 1/2 tsp
    • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
    • Ginger -garlic paste - 2 tsp
    • Coconut milk - 4 cups
    • Vinegar - 2 tbsp
    • Salt - As reqd
    • Below are for Grindings
    • Cinnamon(Karugapatta)
    • Elakka
    • Jathikka
    • Peppercorns(Kurumulaku)
    • Fennel seeds(Perinjeerakam)
    • Grambu

    Directions

    1. Cut beef into slices
    2. Add chilly powder, salt, turmeric powder, pepper powder, ground spices, ginger-garlic paste.
    3. Pressure cook the meat, till it is done.
    4. Cut potatoes and carrots into very small pieces. Steam the potatoes, carrots and peas with salt.
    5. Extract coconut milk. Keep the first extract aside. Make 2 more extractions.
    6. Heat oil in a pan.
    7. Saute curry leaves, green chillies, garlic, ginger and onion.
    8. Add coriander powder, Add the cooked vegetables and fry for a minute.
    9. Add this to the meat and mix well.
    10. Add the second and the third extractions of coconut milk.
    11. Add 1 cup of water and bring to a boil.
    12. Add the first extracted milk.
    13. When the sides start boiling, add vinegar. Do not let it boil.
    14. Remove from flame and Serve hot with appams
