Tasty Toor Daal

    This is one of my favourite daals! I don't make it too often as my family prefers moong daal over this daal. Whenever I come back from vacation this is the daal I crave for!

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 cup toor daal
    • 1 tomatoe finely chopped
    • 1 onion finely chopped
    • 1 tsp heeng
    • 1 tsp coriander powder
    • 1 tsp red chilli powder
    • 3 sprigs coriander leaves
    • 1 tsp methi seeds
    • 2 cloves garlic minced
    • 2 inch ginger minced
    • 3 tsp lemon juice
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    • salt to taste

    Prep:5min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Extra time:30min soaking  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Soak the daal for 30 mins. Then place it in a pressure cooker with salt and turmeric powder and let it cook for 15 mins(2 whistles).
    2. While the daal is boiling, saute onions,tomatoes,ginger,garlic,red chilli powder, heeng and methi seeds for 5 mins.
    3. Add the above mixture to boiled daal , add lemon juice and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

    Serving suggestion

    Serve with rice or have it as a soup! You can add peas and carrots to the daal and have it as a lentil soup!
