About this recipe: Cooked apples topped with flour, brown sugar and porridge oats.


Serves: 4 

  • 1 large apple, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons caster sugar
  • Crumble topping
  • 5 tablespoons wholemeal flour
  • 50g butter
  • 4 tablespoons demerara or light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon porridge oats

  1. Preheat the oven to 190 C.
  2. Place half of the chopped apple in a medium sized ovenproof dish and sprinkle with sugar. Then top with the rest of the apple.
  3. To make the crumble topping: Sieve the flour into a bowl. Add butter and sugar and rub in until mix looks like breadcrumbs. Then add the oats and mix. Spread the crumble topping on top of the apples.
  4. Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until apples are soft and crumble topping is golden brown.
