About this recipe:Lentil burgers are a delicious preparation that can be served well for a gathering or a hearty meal at home.
These lentils account for a baked bean taste and though slightly sweet, they are extremely savory. They are a perfect combination of the softness and a delicious flavor that is integral to that of baked beans. They are nutrient rich and provides for a very filling meal at the same time.
It is prepared as follows.
1can (15 ounce) consisting of crushed fire-roasted tomatoes
1diced small onion, medium yellow in colour
1 diced small pepper green in colour
2 minced garlic cloves
2teaspoons of chili powder
1teaspoon of smoked paprika
1teaspoon of ground mustard
3tablespoons of tomato paste
1tablespoon of olive oil
1tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
1 1⁄2tablespoons of maple syrup
1⁄2teaspoon of sea salt
1⁄4teaspoon of black pepper
Place all the lentils in a small sauce pot and pour in 4 cups of the beer. Cover the top with a lid and then boil it. While boiling, reduce the heat and then simmer it for about 20 minutes, until the lentils are soft. Once done, drain and set the lentils aside.
Preheat a medium sauce pan over medium heat for about 10 minutes before the lentils are done boiling. Saute the pepper and onion in the oil (for about 7 minutes) until softened.
Then add the garlic and saute it for a minute more.
Add the cooked lentils, and then the other spices (Do not use up the dried mustard & maple syrup at his stage). Thereafter, stir gently until just combined.
Next, add the tomato paste and tomato sauce. Cook for about 10 minutes.
At this stage add the maple syrup and mustard and heat them through.
Once you turn off the heat off, let it sit for about 10 minutes. This will ensure that the flavours sink in properly.
It is ready to be served either the way it is in microwavable bowls / serving plates or it can be teamed with buns that a are cut in halves.
