    About this recipe: Plantain flower is a healthy one for all. Women are suggested to intake plantain flower once a week. Vazhaipoo vadai is famous in tamilnadu. I have tried plantain flower biriyani and it turned out very tasty. You can also enjoy this different biriyani.

    Ingredients

    • Basmati rice - 1 cup - 250 g
    • Big onion - thinly sliced - 3 - 250 g
    • small onions/shallots - 5 - 50 g
    • pudina/mint leaves - A handful
    • coriander leaves - A handful
    • Cinnamon stick - 1
    • green cardamom - 6-8
    • black cardamom -1-2
    • star anise - 1
    • cloves - 2
    • green chillies - 4-6 adjust according to ur wish
    • fennel seeds - 1 small teaspoon
    • shahi jeera(optional) - 1 small teaspoon
    • garlic - 1 big one - peeled
    • ginger - 1/2 of garlic qty
    • oil - 2 tbsp
    • ghee - 1/2 tbsp
    • squeezed lemon juice - 1 tsp
    • rose water - 1 tsp
    • curd - 50 to 75 ml
    • chilly powder - 1 tsp
    • biriyani masala powder (optional) - 2 tsp
    • salt - required amt
    • water - 2 cups (twice the rice qty)
    • plantain flower cleaned and stamen removed - 1.5 cup tightly pressed
    • buttermilk - 1 cup
    • bay leaves - 1
    • tomato - 1 big - cut into small pieces

    Directions

    1. Take plantain flower florets and remove the stamen(kaalan) from every floret. Put them in buttermilk mixed water till you cook. It will prevent the florets from becoming black.
    2. Soak the basmati rice for 15 minutes
    3. In a mixie, grind the shallots, half of the mentioned mint and coriander leaves, peeled ginger, garlic, fennel seeds, half of the cinnamon stick, all green cardamom, green chillies as fine paste.
    4. Keep the cooker in the stove and add oil and ghee.
    5. Add the remaining cinnamon stick after broken into pieces, bay leaf, cloves, black cardamom peeled, shahi jeera and saute for few seconds.
    6. Add the sliced big onions and saute till it becomes translucent and leave it to slightly caramalize. it will take at least 10 to 15 mts
    7. Add the cut tomato pieces and saute till it blends and oil separates.
    8. Now add the ground paste and saute till oil seperates.
    9. Add remaining mint and coriander leaves, curd, lemon juice and rose water at this time and saute for few a minute.
    10. Add cleaned banana florets, biriyani powder, chilli powder, salt and saute for a minute.
    11. Pour the water into it and allow it to boil.
    12. At this time, taste it and add the salt if you require.
    13. When water comes to boil, add the rice, mix well and close the cooker lid and pur the whistle.
    14. Keep the stove in a low flame and leave it for 10 minutes.
    15. Switch off the stove and leave it till the whistle goes off.
    16. Open it and mix well.
    17. What next?? Tasty vazhaipoo biriyani is ready to serve....

    Shortcut

    You can also finally roast some cashewnuts in ghee and add it in the biriyani before serving.
