About this recipe: We’ve all grown up reading and hearing about comic superheroes – Superman, Spiderman and the like. The allure of these superheroes was mainly in the fact that they had super powers that regular people like us didn’t have, and they could be counted upon to save the day. And this is precisely why some foods have the elite status of being a ‘superfood’, they have magical powers that regular foods don’t have! Superfoods – what are they? Now, even though you hear the word ‘superfood’ a lot, it does not really have any official medical definition (being like superman hardly qualifies as a definition!). However the Oxford dictionary defines superfood as a ‘nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being’. In a nutshell, superfoods are nutrient powerhouses and are understood to improve one’s general health and wellbeing, preventing the onset of lifestyle diseases as well as slowing the ageing process.
