Bitter gourd recipe/karela recipe

    This is a typical bong dish.It goes well with rice.

    • 1 to 2 bitter gourd cut into thin slices
    • 1 large onion cut into thin slices
    • 1 to 2 tsp oil
    • Salt as per taste
    • 1 tsp turmeric powder/ haldi powder
    • 1 tsp dry mango powder


    1. Take a frying pan or a karahi add some oil then fry the onions till golden brown.
    2. When it gets golden add the bitter gourds and fry for sometime.
    3. Then add salt,turmeric powder and amchoor powder.
    4. Stir fry for sometime till the bitter gourds are soft.If needed add some oil from sides.
    5. When it is soft and tender your recipe is done.
    6. Serve it hot with rice.


    To remove the bitterness you can marinate the bitter gourd with some salt abd keep aside.
