Kheer (Indian Rice Pudding)

Kheer is an Indian dessert. Its main ingredients are rice(raw or boiled), milk and sugar. It is known by different names in different parts of the country. Some of its other names are firni, payasam, payas etc. My mother makes delicious Kheer. My version of this sweet dish is not as tasty as my mother's kheer but its good. I liked it. Actually, my parents tasted it and liked it too. If you are a 14 years old child like me then you must make this. It is super easy to make.

    1 person made this

    • 500 ml milk
    • 4-5 tsp sugar
    • 1 small bowl boiled rice
    • Tiny pinch of salt
    • Roughly chopped nuts

    1. Take a sauce pan and pour the milk into it and bring it to boil on medium flame.
    2. Add sugar and a tiny pinch of salt into the milk and stir to dissolve the sugar.
    3. Let the milk boil till it thickens (if required, mix 1/2 tsp of corn flour with water in a bowl and then add it to the sauce pan)
    4. Add the boiled rice to the pan. Mix it well with the milk. Let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
    5. Put the gas off. Add roughly chopped nuts (like cashew, raisins, pistachio, almonds etc). Mix well with the milk and rice mixture.
    6. Take the kheer out in a bowl. Garnish it with nuts. The kheer is ready. Serve it hot or cold.

This is an easy version of Kheer. Traditional kheer is made with raw rice.
