Sooji Gur Ka Halwa

Sooji halwa is a very famous North Indian dessert can be prepared with in 15 minutes. Usually it is made with sooji and sugar, but I used Gur as sweetener . It gave golden yellow / golden light brown colour and nice flavour to halwa. Jaggery/Gur (unrefined sugar) is an excellent source of iron.

    4 people made this

    • Sooji / Semolina / Rawa - 1 / 2 Cup
    • Grated Gur/ Jaggery - 1 /2 Cup
    • Ghee - 8 tea spoons / 40 ml
    • Water - 2 Cups
    • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tea spoon
    • Raisins for garnish

    1. Heat ghee in a non - stick pan , add sooji and sauté till golden brown stirring constantly at slow heat.
    2. In a separate pan boil water with jaggery / Gur until dissolved completely .
    3. Pour the dissolved water - Gur mixture slowly to the fried sooji while stirring constantly . Cook till the water is absorbed and the ghee starts leaving the pan . Garnish with raisins and sprinkle cardamom powder.

Wow!, really easy to follow this recipe for Gur Ka Halwa. Usually I have trouble making the halwa look like in the picture here and also taste as good. This way of making is so simple and really easy to follow. I wouldn't even try to change anything in the recipe provided here. I am making this so often and every time it comes out yumlicious! If I could, I would give 100 stars.  -  08 Feb 2018
