Chicken Nizami

    Chicken Nizami is a mouthwatering dish with the with the flavors of Indian spices and goodness of chicken. It has flavorsome gravy that is cooked with cashew nuts, cinnamon, poppy seeds, coconut and aromatic spices, then garnished with cream, saffron and coriander this really makes it a rich creamy chicken dish that you must try.

    Ingredients

    • 1 tbsp ghee
    • 3 bay leaves
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 1/2 cup onion - chopped
    • 1/2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
    • 1 tbsp water
    • 1 tbsp cashew paste
    • 500 gram chicken
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2 tbsp cream
    • 4 green chillies – slitted
    • 2 tbsp coriander leaves - chopped
    • 2 tbsp hung curd
    • 1 tbsp cream
    • 1 tsp saffron milk
    • To make paste
    • 8-10 dry red chillies
    • 2 tbsp dry coconut
    • 1 tsp poppy seeds
    • 1 tsp cumin seeds
    • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    • 4 cloves
    • 4-5 green cardamom

    Directions

    1. Grind all the ingredients mentioned under paste into a fine paste.
    2. Extract the milk from the soaked coconut and set aside.
    3. Heat the saffron for 2 seconds and soak in hot milk.
    4. Heat ghee, add bay leaf, cinnamon stick to it. Add the onions and fry them till it is golden-brown. Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry for a couple of minutes.
    5. Add the ground paste and saute well.
    6. Add cashew nut paste and cook.
    7. Add the chicken pieces and 1/2 a cup of water and continue cooking, for approximately minutes, over a low heat. When the chicken is almost cooked, add the coconut milk, green chillies, coriander leaves and yoghurt.
    8. Cook till the chicken is tender.
    9. Add the cream and saffron and simmer for 2 minutes.

    JOOSyTip : Adding water to the spices while cooking helps release flavour of the spices.
