This is my favourite dry chutney. Nuvvu is the Telugu word for Til or Sesame seeds. This powder is great eaten with rice. It also adds a lovely flavor when sprinkled into Andhra kooras (sabjis).

Be the first to make this!

    Makes: 1 cup

    • 250 grams nuvvulu (til, sesame seeds)
    • 10 dry red chillis (more or less depending on your heat preference)
    • Salt to taste

    1. Dry roast the sesame seeds till they are golden brown and fragrant. Spread out on newspaper to cool.
    2. In the same pan, roast the red chillis with ½ teaspoon sesame or vegetable oil. Grind the sesame seeds and red chillis along with some salt into a powder. Nuvvu podi will keep for a few months on the shelf.
