About this recipe: Everyone wants this recipe from me. Rice layered with beets and aloo masala make this good looking, delicious and healthy dish. Great for a party or when you want to make a lavish dinner for someone special.

Serves: 4 

  • 2 cups rice
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala (whole)
  • 1medium potato
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1/2 cup cauliflower (cut into small pieces)
  • 4 slices bread
  • 1 medium beet root
  • 1/2 cup yam(sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon haldi
  • 1/2 cup curd
  • 1/2 teaspoon citric acid
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6-8 cashews
  • 10-12 raisin

  1. In a pan, half cook rice and keep it aside. In a separate pan, heat oil and add whole garam masala.
  2. Add potato, cauliflower, onion, beet root, yam to the pan and fry it for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the remaining dry masala and curd in it, cook it till oil separates. Dissolve citric acid in water and pour it over it.
  4. In a heavy bottom pan, put the layer of half cooked rice and then layer of vegetable masala. Again layer rice and another layer of vegetable masala. Spread milk, raisins and cashwes on the last layer of rice, cook it on low heat for 5-10 minutes. Serve hot.
