Rice Halwa (Manni)

    A tradition Tulunad sweet made with rice and coconut, also called 'Manni' in coastal regions.

    Serves: 5 

    • 1 cup Rice
    • 1 cup Grated coconut
    • 3/4 cup Jaggery
    • 2 tsp Ghee
    • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder

    1. Wash and soak rice for two hours. Then grind along with grated coconut to a fine paste.
    2. Add 6 cups of water and jaggery in a deep, heavy bottomed pan. Put it on medium heat and keep stirring the mixture till its thick.
    3. When it's thick, add ghee, a pinch of salt and cardamom powder.
    4. Take it off the flame. Smear ghee on a plate and pour the mixture. When cold, cut in required shape and serve.
