Kerala style broccoli

    Broccoli is not very common in India, but now increasingly available in the city super markets. Here is a broccoli preparation using coconut and the kerala style of preparing food. I love it!!!

    Serves: 4 

    • 3 cups broccoli florets
    • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
    • 1 teaspoon Mustard
    • 2 Dry red chili torn into halves
    • 1/2 teaspoon White urad dal
    • 1 /4 teaspoon Cumin
    • 2 teaspoons Grated Ginger
    • 2 cloves Garlic, chopped
    • 3 medium Onions chopped fine
    • 2 tablespoons Corriander powder
    • 1 cup Grated Coconut
    • 1/2 cup Water
    • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
    • Salt to taste

    1. Cut broccoli into slender pieces.
    2. Heat oil in a frying pan and toss mustard seeds and let splutter. Now toss in red chilies, urad dal, Cumin, ginger, garlic and onions.Saute until onions are golden brown. Now add corriander powder and coconut. Saute till the coconut gets roasted.
    3. Now add water, turmeric powder, broccoli and salt. Stir a few times, lower the flame and cook covered until done.
