Chakka idichadu/ Crushed Tender Jackfruit

    This is a non-spicy, dry veg. dish where the highlight is the taste of jackfruit. So, this is a must-try for all the jackfruit lovers. Usually eaten with steamed rice and curry.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1/2 kg Tender Jackfruit pieces
    • Water as needed
    • 1 tablespoon Cooking oil
    • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
    • 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes
    • 1 teaspoon whole urad dal
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • 4-5 curry leaves
    • 1/4 cup fine chopped pearl onion/small onion
    • Salt to taste

    1. Boil jackfruit in water until it cooks and softens. Drain the water left, if any. Let the jackfruit cool and then crush well with fingers or in a blender. Make sure it does not get mashed, but only coarsely crushed.
    2. Heat oil in a deep pan. Add mustard seeds and let splutter. Add red chili flakes and Urad dal, keep saute'ing until urad dal starts turning brown. Now, add crushed garlic, curry leaves and onion. Saute' again until onion gets tender.
    3. Add in the crushed jackfruit and salt and saute' well for another 5 minutes.
