    This is yet another iconic dish from Bengal. The specialty is in use of fresh ingredients such as good quality prawns and coconut milk etc. This is again a gourmet item and usually is cooked in my house during a special occasion.

    Serves: 5 

    • 10-12 prawns
    • Salt to taste
    • 4 tbspn oil
    • 1/2 cup grated coconut
    • 5 tbspn mustard paste
    • 5-6 green chilies
    • 2 tspn turmeric powder
    • sugar
    • 1 banana leaf

    1. Wash prawn pieces properly and then immerse it in salt water for about 5 minutes.
    2. Combine oil, grated coconut, mustard paste, salt, turmeric and sugar, mix well.
    3. Take out the prawns from the water and dry them properly. Marinate them in the coconut mixture. Place the prawns, individually, on a banana leaf. Spread the chopped chilli on the prawns and cover it with another leaf.
    4. Now place the entire package in a pressure cooker and cook for about ten minutes. Steamed prawns are ready to serve.
