About this recipe: Plantains grow widely in Kerala. Hence, Plantain Bajji is a common and much loved snack.

Serves: 6 

  • 3 Plantains/ Raw Bananas
  • 300gms Besan/ chickpea flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 2 tablespoon Sour curd
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Cooking oil to deep fry

  1. Remove the outer skin of each plantain and cut it into 4 long pieces. Keep it dipped in cold water to prevent turning black.
  2. Mix besan, asafoetida, red chili powder, curd and salt well. Add water to this mixture slowly and keep stirring to make a thick sticky batter.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan and when hot enough, dip the cut plantain into the batter and deep fry. Serve with hot tea.
