Bina's Lau Chingri (Indian Gourd-Shrimps)

    Its quick, easy to make and healthy! The dish is also a favorite to shrimp lovers. It is not spicy, and quite soothing. It is usually eaten as an everyday dish with plain white rice.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 5 

    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 onion ( 1/2 used for slices and other 1/2 used to make paste)
    • 1 cup shrimps
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic paste
    • 1/2 teaspoon ginger paste
    • salt as needed
    • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon cumin paste (optional)
    • 1 medium sized Indian gourd chopped into cubes
    • 10 green chillies cut in half

    Directions
    Prep:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:45min 

    1. Heat oil in a pan and add the onion slices and paste. Fry until the onions turn golden. Add the shrimps and continue frying. Add ginger, garlic and cumin pastes. Sprinkle salt and turmeric powder and mix well.
    2. Now add the chopped gourds and continue stirring and mixing. Put the lid on with low heat for 10-15 minutes.
    3. When half cooked, add the green chillies, and cover the pan with the lid again for another 10-15 minutes.

    Tip

    No need to add any water because the gourd will release plenty of it.

    The oil mentioned is too much. Ginger paste is enough. No need to add onion or garlic. But I loved the recipe.  -  21 Mar 2017
