About this recipe: Lachchi shemai is a dessert cooked on Eid holiday. Family members and friends would come by after the Eid prayer and would have this delicious dessert. It is creamy, sumptuous and milky. It can eaten warm, or can be also served chilled.

Serves: 5 

  • 1 liter milk
  • 2-3 cardamoms
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cloves
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rose water
  • 200 g Lachchi Shemai (uncooked)
  • 1 tablespoon raisins, cashew and chestnuts
  • 2 tables grated mawa

  1. Heat the milk and add the cardamoms, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf and cloves. When bubbles form, sprinkle the sugar and rose water. Continue heating so that the milk becomes thick.
  2. Put the shemai and the raisins, cashews and chestnuts on a dish. Pour the milk on the dish allow the shemai to soak in the milk. Sprinkle the grated mawa.
  3. It can be served hot or chilled.
