    About this recipe: Dal er bora or Peeyaju is a common food item for Iftar during Ramadan. It has been a tradition to make dal er bora for years. It is made up of dal (lentil), usually masoor dal. Everybody makes dal er bora for iftar and is served with chola bhaji and puffed rice.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 3 

    • 1 cup of masoor dal (lentil) soaked for 3 hours
    • 1/2 cup of onion slices
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped green chilies
    • 1/2 teaspoon of ginger paste
    • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic paste
    • 1/3 teaspoon of turmeric powder
    • 1/3 teaspoon of red chili powder
    • 1 handful coriander leaves
    • salt
    • 2 cup oil (for deep fry)

    1. Filter the dal grains out and transfer to a sheel pata. Grind well to make a moist soft paste.
    2. Mix onion slices, chopped green chilies, ginger and garlic pastes, turmeric and red chili powders, coriander leaves and salt with the dal paste.
    3. Heat a deep frying pan with oil.
    4. Make small balls out of this mixture and add a few balls (bora) at a time to the bubbling oil.
    5. Fry the bora until golden brown.
    6. Serve with ketchup. It is usually eaten with chola bhaja. However, it can be also eaten with rice.
