Shorisha diye dherosh ranna (Mustard Lady Fingers Curry)

    This is a curry of dherosh (lady fingers) and mustard. It is quite strong in taste because of the use of mustard paste. Serve with plain rice.

    • 2 tablespoons of soybean oil
    • 2 tablespoons of mustard paste
    • 1/2 cup of onion slices
    • 7-8 green chilies, sliced in half along the length
    • salt as needed
    • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
    • 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
    • 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
    • 2 cups of chopped ladyfingers
    • 1/2 cup of cubed and pealed potatoes
    • water as needed


    1. Heat a pan with soybean oil and add the mustard paste, onion slices, green chilies and salt. Stir and mix well.
    2. Sprinkle the turmeric, red chili and coriander powders and mix well.
    3. Cook for 5-6 minutes until the water released from the mustard paste dries and the oil starts to simmer on top.
    4. Now add the chopped ladyfingers and potatoes. Cook until the water dries up and the oil starts to simmer and float on top.
    5. When all of the spices have been mixed well, add 1 cup of water and cook for another 8-9 minutes. Cook until the water dries up to form a thick gravy and the oil starts to simmer on top.
    6. Serve with plain white rice.
