Doi Rui Fish (Ruhi fish in yogurt)

    Rui fish is one of the most popular big fishes found in the Bengal. A curry of rui fish with yoghurt is indeed a traditional food item. Serve with plain white rice.

    • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
    • 1/4 cup of diced onions
    • 4 dried chillies
    • 1 teaspoon of garlic paste
    • 1 teaspoon of onion paste
    • 1 teaspoon of ginger paste
    • 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
    • 1 teaspoon of cumin
    • 1 teaspoon of chilli powder
    • 1 teaspoon of black pepper powder
    • Salt as needed
    • 1/2 cup of Doi (sweet yogurt)
    • 100 gm of Rui Fish


    1. Pour olive oil on a pan and apply heat. Once the oil becomes hot, add the diced onion, dried chilli and the garlic, onion and ginger pastes. Stir well.
    2. Add coriander, cumin, red chilli and black pepper powders and salt. Stir again to ensure that the spices have mixed properly.
    3. Add the Doi (yogurt) and mix it properly.
    4. Now add the rui fish to the mixture and mix the fish properly with the gravy. Once they are mixed put the lid on the pan.
    5. Allow the mixture to be heated for 10 minutes and then turn the heat off. Doi rui fish is now ready to be served.
