Mula shak narikel o chingri diye bhaji (Radish Leaves-Coconut and Shrimp fry)

    Mula shak with coconut and shrimps is considered healthy dish. The radish leaves or mula shak themselves have a slightly strong bitter taste that is countered with the sweetness of the coconut and crunchiness of the shrimps. It is served with plain rice or rotis.

    • 1 tablespoon of soybean oil
    • 1 tablespoon of onion slices
    • 1 teaspoon of garlic slices
    • Salt as needed
    • 1/2 cup of shrimps
    • 1 teaspoon of ginger, garlic and onion paste (altogether)
    • 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder
    • 1/2 kg of mula shak (radish leaves), chopped in small pieces
    • 1 cup of grated coconut
    • 4-5 green chilies, sliced in half along the length


    1. Heat a frying pan with oil. Add the onion and garlic slices. Fry for a bit.
    2. Sprinkle the salt and add the shrimps. Mix in the ginger, garlic and onion pastes and turmeric powder. Fry the shrimps.
    3. Add the shak leaves. Stir and cook with lid on for 10 minutes.
    4. Add the grated coconut and stir. Cook for 10-15 more minutes with lid on. Stir every now and then.
    5. Serve.
