Kochur Pakora (colocasia or yam pakora)

    Kochu is vegetable that has countless uses in Bengali cuisine. This recipe makes simple yet delicious afternoon snacks called "pakoras". Enjoy with ketchup or chutney.

    • 1 cup of peeled and sliced kochu
    • 1 cup of onion slices
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped green chilies
    • 1/2 teaspoon of ginger paste
    • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic paste
    • 3/4 teaspoon of baking powder
    • 2 eggs
    • salt as needed
    • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper powder
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped coriander leaves
    • 100 g of flour or rice powder
    • soybean oil for deep frying


    1. Mix all the ingredients excluding the oil. If needed add a bit of water to make a thick paste.
    2. Heat a deep frying pan with oil. Add a lump of the mixture to make a pakore on to the hot oil. Repeat to make a few more pakoras. Deep fry until the pakoras turn golden brown.
    3. Serve with ketchup of sauce.
