About this recipe: Patavadya is a simple afternoon snack common in Maharashtrian homes. It is made from seasoned besan. Serve it warm with tea.

Serves: 3 

  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt as needed
  • 1 teaspoon green chili paste
  • 1 and ½ cups water
  • 1 cup besan
  • ½ teaspoon haldi powder

  1. Heat a pan with oil, add cumin seeds, salt and green chili paste.
  2. Now add water. Stir and allow the mixture to boil for 2 minutes.
  3. Then add besan to the mixture. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes very thick.
  4. Take spoonfuls and add to a greased serving dish. Spread the whole besan mixture on to the dish upto ½ inch height. Allow to cool, and cut into cubes.
  5. Serve with tea as a snack.
